I had written a story back in December about a little girl from Cortlandt named Liz Feller. She was only 10 years old at the time, and yet she used her birthday money to start up a jewelry business to raise money for the Peekskill soup kitchen. After stringing together hundreds of thousands of beads and selling dozens of necklaces, she ended up donating more than $860.
I just found out that Liz has won the “Volunteer of the Year Award” from the Volunteer Center of the United Way. (In the New York Life Youth Individual category.)
She and the winners from six other categories will be honored at the Volunteer Spirit Awards breakfast at Doral Arrowwood in Rye on April 27.
