SOUTH SALEM — The Katonah-Lewisboro Union Free School District is pleased to announce
assignments for two elementary principals for the 2008-2009 school year, at both Lewisboro
Elementary School and at Katonah Elementary School. After twelve years as Principal of
Lewisboro Elementary School, Dr. Mary Flynn-Maguire will retire from the district in June.
One of the district’s many strengths is the development of a core team of administrators to
provide a solid foundation of educational leadership for faculty and students. Therefore, it was a
very natural and planned progression to fill the vacant position at Lewisboro Elementary School
with an administrator who has invested herself within the district for several years.
Ms. Cristy Harris, an elementary school Principal who is currently on a family leave of absence,
will be rejoining the Katonah-Lewisboro school district’s leadership team as the Principal of
Lewisboro Elementary School. Ms. Harris has over five years of experience as a school leader,
including four years as the Principal at Katonah Elementary School, and several as a Head
Teacher in the Bedford Central School District. “Ms. Harris has done an outstanding job in
curriculum development, and has spearheaded a well-received balanced literacy initiative,â€
Dr. Robert Roelle, Superintendent, declared. “She is an educational leader who will be a
tremendous asset to the Lewisboro Elementary School.â€
The Superintendent is pleased to recommend Mr. Jonathan Kaplan to the Board of Education for
appointment as Principal at Katonah Elementary School, where he has been serving as the
Interim Principal. Previously, Mr. Kaplan served for three years as the Assistant Principal at
Katonah Elementary School. “Jonathan is a capable, caring and charismatic professional who
has proven himself quite capable in managing the diverse needs of our students,†Dr. Roelle
noted. Certified as an administrator, educational leader and elementary teacher, Mr. Kaplan is
most proud of his relationships with students, exclaiming, “I try to discover who each child is as
a learner, and strive with my team to help provide the best learning environment possible.â€
Congratulations to both Ms. Harris and Mr. Kaplan on their assignments within the Katonah-
Lewisboro school district. The students, faculty and community will continue to benefit from
their excellent work as educational leaders for many years to come.
