One of the country’s leading cinematographers—who has worked with Martin Scorsese, Sam
Mendes and Spike Lee—recently visited the School of Film and Media Studies at Purchase College.
Ellen Kuras, who worked on “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Analyze That,” presented a lighting workshop for production students and discussed her career after a screening of her work. The event was supported by a grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences.
Kuras, a Nyack resident, was nominated for a 2009 Academy Award for her directorial debut, a documentary called “The Betrayal.”
As a cinematographer, Kuras also worked on documentaries about some major rock stars: “Neil Young: Heart of Gold” and “No Direction Home: Bob Dylan.”
