News from Hendrick Hudson school district:
At the Town Board meeting of April 22, Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi and the Town Board recognized eleven Earth Day poster contest winners, selected by the Town of Cortlandt’s Green Team, and all of them were fifth graders from the Hendrick Hudson School District.
Supervisor Puglisi opened the meeting by reminding everyone that it was the 44th Earth Day, and she commended so many audience members for wearing green. Puglisi recalled, with a laugh, that she was old enough to remember the very first Earth Day, back in 1970 when she was still in college.
Cortlandt received more than 50 entries from students in 4 schools. The winners, listed here by school, are: Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School — Gabby Burke, Joaquin Candia, Jessie Corbett, Maggie McCluskey, and Emilia Valle; Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School — Shannon Burke, Madeline Donnelly, Audrey Puente, and Jolie Regan; Furnace Woods Elementary School

The winning artists were called up by name to receive certificates, water bottles, a seed packet, and a $20 gift card to the movies. Before gathering up their posters, which were on display at the back of the Town Hall meeting room, the students posed for a group photo with their certificates and goodies.
