Jake Gallin, a seventh-grader at New Rochelle’s Albert Leonard Middle School, was honored by state Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins today in recognition of his project that honors military families.
Jake created “Stars for Cars,” magnets that he sells on his website and donates the money to the United Service Organization. He also trying to reach out to other school districts to make announcements remembering military families on Sept. 11, Veterans Day (Nov. 11) and Memorial Day. Although the practice started with Albert Leonard Middle School, 45 other schools in the area now are doing the same.
To show support for Jake, Stewart-Cousins made one of the remembrance announcements over the Albert Leonard Middle School public address system today.
