The Southern Westchester BOCES Adult Education Program, which offers literacy classes, ESL classes, preparation for the high school equivalency exam and other courses, has been rated highly proficient by the New York State Education Department.
The state rated the programs in its 2014-15 Report Card of adult education programs.
The state’s evaluation is based on four performance measures: educational gain, the frequency of post testing, follow-up outcomes and survey responses. Among BOCES students, 93 percent enter or regain employment, earn high school equivalency credentials or begin a post-secondary education program.
The BOCES Adult Education Program serves close to 4,000 students at 25 locations throughout southern Westchester, with classes conducted in public libraries, schools and other facilities. It also includes a Licensed Practical Nursing Program and a Certified Nursing Assistant Program, both available at the BOCES facility in Harrison.
Other adult education programs offered by BOCES include a Cosmetology Licensing Program and a number of “Career Starter” courses that qualify graduates to work in the areas of HVAC, office management, pharmacy technology, phlebotomy and as EKG technicians.
